  • Lesson 2: Running into Justice

What does God want to do with my life? What is my calling, my vocation? Dr. JoAnne Lyon did not start off with a clear sense of what God wanted to do with her life. Rather, God put a burden on her heart for people as she came into contact with them. God opened doors, and she walked through them. “What can we do?” might aptly capture her response each time God revealed a need. One theme of her life has been biblical justice, not because she sought it out but because God brought it to her. As she says, “God will guide you into places you don’t think he will when you say yes.”

This lesson aims to equip you to:

    1. See that the theme of biblical justice to the widow, the orphan, the stranger, and the poor not only pervades the Old Testament but is clear in the New Testament as well.
    2. Have open eyes to the concrete needs of others around you.
    3. Be open to God calling you to work to meet the needs of others.
