How can I get the people in my circle of influence to practice the 4 marks of a shepherd with the people that are in their circle of influence?
STAR (the disciplines of empowering the people around me):
S- Stir them
T- Train them
A- Affirm them
R- Release them
“Our structures are set up to keep us mediocre most of the time.” How can we motivate and encourage people to shine in the one or two things they are good at instead of pulling them back into mediocrity?
Take the list of your “inner circle” people from Lesson 2. Consider and write down two or three ways that you have motivated them for each letter of the STAR acronym.
Reflect on how your “inner circle” is involved with your ministry. For each person, list their one or two primary areas of strength. Honestly reflect on if they are being utilized according to their strength, or if they are being pulled back toward mediocrity. For each person, write down their ideal ministry/leadership task in your organization solely according to their area of strength.
From your perspective, what is the difference between releasing people and simply promoting them? Releasing people inherently means that you will be relinquishing some measure of control and influence in their lives. Write three different paragraphs:
What concerns or fears keep you from releasing people?
Which of these concerns/fears are justified, and which of them are holding you back from growing and developing your people? What steps can you take to address or resolve those concerns/fears?
What are the benefits and strengths that you can foresee for you, your people, and your organization if you can release your people successfully?
