The Christus Victor atonement theory (Christ as Victor) models the idea that we as humans are subject to the confines, the ties, the bondage of sin, of Satan and of the realms of darkness. Through Christ's death on the cross, the shedding of His blood, and the atonement for the sins of the world that that represents, we are set free from being a servant to the darkness, and we are free to walk in the light--literally, Christ is victorious over death, sin and Satan. John 16:33 says "In this world you will have trouble, but take heart, for I have overcome the world!"

I am in agreement with the Christ as Victor model that is presented by Aulen. We as humans are sinful, and are in bondage to sin, Satan and darkness as a result of the Fall. But through Jesus' death--or more aptly through His resurrection--we are free. He has conquered, He is victorious. We know that He was tempted the same as we were (Heb 4:15 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.) but He was victorious over the very temptation that leads to sin. If we allow Christ to have dominion in our lives, we can have the freedom from the things of the world, and the realms of darkness...we too can be victors over these things, by the power of Christ within us! Praise be to God, and all God's people said: AMEN, AMEN, AMEN!
