This question lies at the heart of many of society’s most controversial and divisive issues today. Human sexuality has become a battlefield — politically, spiritually, and socially — where humanity is, in many ways, raging against God as Creator, against His divine design, and against His purpose for family. In my opinion, it has become a trap, causing many to stumble and live in confusion.
Genesis 1:26–27 (NKJV) declares:
“Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’
So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”
From the very beginning, Scripture makes it clear that we are made in God’s image and likeness. God Himself is the author of sexuality and gender. Gender is not a matter of human choice or emotion—it is part of God’s divine design, something He created and called good. The Creator of heaven and earth declared that what He made was good; male and female are good.
Acts 17:25–28 (NKJV) confirms this and reminds us of God’s intentionality with each of us,
“Nor is He worshipped with men’s hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things. And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.’”
God designed each of us — our lives, our identities, and even the boundaries of where we live — so that we may seek and find Him. Everything about our being is intentional, part of His beautiful plan that draws us back to the Creator. And to live is to do so in Jesus.
When humanity begins to fight against this reality, we partner with the Father of lies and a demonic agenda that seeks to distort what God has designed. These foundational truths—the very building blocks of society—are being attacked in an effort to confuse and trap people in sin and brokenness. The lie that “something is wrong with me” directly opposes the truth that God made us intentionally and purposefully.
In essence, we step into the role of god when we think we can determine something like gender based on our emotions or will. Paul addresses this issue of pride and rebellion in Romans 1:20-25 (NKJV):
“For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.
Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.
Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonour their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.”
Here, Paul reveals the root issue—idolatry. When we claim the right to define our own sexuality, we are in essence declaring that God is not the creator and what He made wasn’t good. Making ourselves gods. Sexuality is not a feeling or a personal decision; it is a part of God’s design, established by the triune God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—and declared good.
While many who struggle in this area may have deep wounds or have suffered pain and abuse, the tragedy remains that rebellion against God’s design leads to bondage, not freedom. Returning to the Creator is the key to freedom and victory. But, unfortunately, as Scripture says, humanity exchanges the glory of the Creator for the creature, choosing self over God.
LGBTQ is ironically associated with “Pride” as part of the movement. Pride is what many see as the original sin, the very sin that caused Satan’s fall from heaven. It is man rising in defiance against the perfect and good design of God, claiming autonomy where only the Creator has authority. Yet, as believers, we know that we are not in control of our own destiny—God is.
Ephesians 2:10 (NKJV) once again affirms the reality of our dependence on Him and that life only makes sense in His way:
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”
We are His workmanship, prepared for purpose by the Creator of all things! We are not mistakes. In Psalm 139:13-14 (NKJV), David writes beautifully:
“For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvellous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well.”
God intricately designed each of us with purpose and love. He rejoices in His creation. Yet, humanity continues to rise in defiance against Him.
What we see in society today is humanity exchanging the truth of God for lies, living lives that are trapped, confused, and cut off from the freedom and blessing that come from walking in God’s purpose.
Jesus is the goal and the model of true identity. Our identity is not found in emotion and culture—it is found in the Creator who made us. God declared His creation very good.
Human sexuality, in its pure and biblical form, is a reflection of God’s goodness, beauty, and purpose. It is designed for freedom, blessing, and the fullness of life that He intended.
