This course looks at five key moments in the story of the Church from its birth to the present day. Catch a glimpse of how God has walked with his people for the last two thousand years as we await the return of Christ. What lessons can we learn not only about how God has worked in the past but about how we ourselves are in the flow of history today?

This course is a companion to the course, “What is Worship?” If that course set out the basics of what worship is, this course gives more specific insights to the person leading worship at a church. Beginning with the importance of character in a leader, the course proceeds to give tips on the planning and the actual practice of leading a worship service. We end with advice on reviewing a worship service after the fact so that the worship leader can be continually growing.

This course explores the theme of saying “yes” to the Holy Spirit and how it can lead to many unexpected places of service to God. Following the testimony of Dr. JoAnne Lyon, we will see first how we need to surrender ourselves fully and how this often leads us to see areas of our lives that weren’t under God’s control. Surrender can lead to areas of ministry we were not expecting, such as God’s repeated call to her to do the work of biblical justice. We do not always know where God will lead us when we say “yes,” nor do we always know God’s timing. Sometimes God brings an awakening, such as in the days of Wesley and Finney. We take leaps of faith. We find out what God is doing, and then we get on board.
