Assignment

Activity: Biblical Examples

Completion requirements

The Bible offers rich examples of leaders who initiated major change. Some did so successfully, some disastrously. In this assignment, you will examine a biblical leader such as Nehemiah, Moses, Paul, or even King Saul through the lens of change management.

In 600-800 words, choose one biblical character and analyze their leadership in a moment of change. Your case study should include:

  1. The context of the change
    • What was the situation that led to the change?
    • What leadership role did the figure play?
    • What opposition or resistance was faced?
  1. Analysis – using Kotter’s 8 steps
    • How does this leader’s story reflect (or fail to reflect) Kotter’s principles of effective change leadership?
    • For example: Did they create a sense of urgency? Cast a compelling vision? Empower others? Consolidate gains?
  1. Evaluation
    • Was this a successful change effort? Why or why not?
    • What leadership lessons should today’s church leaders take from this account, positive or cautionary?

Incorporate insights also from your textbooks, Lead Like Wesley, The Leadership Challenge, or possibly other sources as well.
