Discussion: When Change Falls Apart

Change is hard. This is especially true in church contexts that value tradition and continuity. You can have a great initiative for change that suddenly falls apart midstream.

For this discussion, reflect on a change effort you’ve seen in a church or ministry context. Feel free also to do some research on changes that have fallen apart.

• What was the change?
• Why did it begin to slide or fail?
• Which of Kotter’s steps were skipped or handled poorly?
• What might you have done differently?
