Take It Further

Completion requirements

Upon completing the lesson video, reflect on the following questions, either individually or as part of a group discussion:

  • What is one of the most common reasons people tend to resist change? (It’s not because they don’t have the intelligence to understand how the change may help make things better. It’s because they are smart and know that by learning something new it will be uncomfortable, and it will likely make them appear less competent to their peers for a season.
  • As you reflect on John Kotter’s eight-step process to lead organizational change, which step do you feel has been most lacking in your previous attempts to implement something new?
  • How can starting with a compelling answer to the question, “WHY?” go hand in hand with step one to “Create Urgency”?

Change really will only occur when survival anxiety exceeds learning anxiety.

Rev. Peter T. Moore
